Tonight I watched a film adaptation of Jane Austen's novel, "Emma." I love the scene near the end where Mr. Knightly makes his declaration. He says to Emma, "Perhaps it is our imperfections that make us so perfect for one another." This may be a tad cliche, but I think it's a great line. Poor Emma. Mr. Knightly frequently lectures her, yet he compliments her saying she bore it so well. I get lectured a lot. Some of the time it's okay, I'm still growing and learning. But how nice would it be to have a Mr. Knightly into the bargain. When the movie ended, I watched the credits as I tend to do. I like to read people's names, especially the names of British casts. Then I noticed the gentleman who played Mr. Knightly was named Jeremy. Well, what a coincidence.
I went to Chicago with my mom about a week or so ago, and at the place we visited I heard the man next to me spell his name for the woman behind the desk: y-o-u-n-k-e-r. Younker? Did I hear that right? The spelling was off by a letter but the pronunciation was the same. I know, I asked. Ha ha ha. Well, what a coincidence.
Life is full of coincidences, surely. No big deal. However I cannot help but to ask myself, what are the odds? When I was younger I used to put some faith into signs. As though God were dropping small hints about things. I have drifted away from this thinking but I cannot stop marveling at the chance of it. His name has been coming up everywhere I go it seems. Even my best friend mentioned the name to me last weekend. This is a name I have only heard once in high school and now I hear it everywhere. I suppose it's much like getting a new car - never really paying much attention to the make and model or even color, but now since I drive it I see my car everywhere. It's all just a big heap of coincidence.
This entry is not really contemplative or creative, but merely the silly noticings of a young woman. I still marvel at silly little things. A quality I'm often teased about. But that is okay. This is my story. On to the next chapter. Preferably written with less weird coincidences.
